Choral Evensong
Every second Sunday in the month Holy Trinity welcomes visitors to Choral Evensong. We regret there is
no Evensong in July or August.
The service of Bible readings, prayers and music begins at 2.30 pm.
It will be preceded by a Pot Luck Lunch shared with members of the congregation and to which everyone is
welcome.
The following Choral Evensong will be on Sunday 13th June at 2.30 pm.
Green Awareness Group
Following up on our "Hope for the Planet" series of bible studies there is now a group to promote
environmental issues within the church. Anyone interested is welcome to join us at our next meeting:
Sunday 26th September 2010 in the hall after morning service and coffee.
Please bring some food to share. We have the use of the kitchen so dishes can be warmed up and tea and coffee will be provided.
Music and Flower Festival
The Anglican Church in Utrecht celebrates its annual Music and Flower Festival on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June.
This year’s theme is based on Creation. We are becoming more aware about the resources we use in our daily life. These resources are God-given and therefore we should use them with respect. The floral arrangements in the church emphasize this.
The Saturday of the Festival offers mini concerts given in the church. There are both professional and amateur musicians performing the 30 minutes recitals. The intervals last for 20 minutes and allow the audience to visit the English Tearoom. If we are blessed with sunny weather again this relaxing point will be located in the garden next to the church. Here the visitor will find an abundance of home baked cakes as well as fresh coffee and tea and, at lunchtime, freshly made sandwiches, too. Also in the garden people can browse at the book and plants stalls, buy jewelry or choose what jam or marmalade they want to take home.
There is no admission charge, but we welcome your donations.
The timetable on Saturday begins at 10.00am when the Tearoom opens.
10.30 Joyful Noise conductor Kit de Bolster
11.20 John de Wit (cello) en Mieps Fontein (piano)
12.10 Ad Novum conductor Patrick Hopper
13.00 Amor Vincit conductor Gijsbert van de Lagemaat
13.50 Fiona Korff (soprano)
14.40 Contact and muziek
15.30 Anthem conductor Herman Weelink
16.00 close of day one of the Festival
Sunday begins with the Festal Eucharist at 10.30am
Preacher and celebrant is the chaplain, the Venerable John de Wit, Archdeacon of North-West Europe. Music is the ‘Trinity Service’ by Patrick Hopper, commissioned by the choir of Holy Trinity.
The service is followed by a Bring-and-Share Lunch.
Choral Evensong sung by the choir of Holy Trinity Church.
Music is by John Sanders (Responses), Herbert Murrill (Evening canticles in E) and Herbert Sumsion (They that go down to the sea in ships).
We close the Festival by enjoying our Afternoon Tea.
FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS
The flowers you see around you in church celebrate the goodness of the earth and its generous possibilities. The focus is on renewable energy that comes from natural resources that are constantly replenished.
To welcome you in the Porch is a sunny arrangement on SOLAR ENERGY.
At the back of the church you can see a cheerful arrangement about the cycle of
GROWTH AND COMPOST : we can recycle all our old garden waste and kitchen waste and it will produce beautiful flowers and vegetables in the end.
The arrangements on each side of the arch rejoice in THE POWER OF WATER AND WIND to produce energy.
In the sanctuary there are two arrangements about THE FRUITS OF THE EARTH, represented by bread (on the left) and wine (on the right). We give thanks for these gifts which, through God’s goodness, ‘earth has given and human hands have made’. In our worship the bread and wine also become a source of renewed spiritual energy - ‘the bread of life and the cup of salvation’.
