Live Lent App available

On it’s website, the Church of England provides a number of resources for Lent. Although we are already well in to Lent, the app provided might well be of interest to those who are seeking ways to make their way through this time of penitence. It comes recommended by at least one member of our congregation! The app, for Android and IOS, can be found on the following page. Scroll down to find the…

Longing for God

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. — Ps 63:1

This is a translation of a text that I wrote earlier (February 2016) in Dutch, for the congregation of the Jeruzalemkerk.

A long time ago I heard in the time before Easter a sermon in which Psalm 63 was quoted. Particularly verse 3: Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. I considered this, and thought it was quite nonsensical. I thought: “What point is there in having a God when you are not alive?” And honestly, I still think that it is humanly impossible to believe in God’s love, when in this life we do not receive that which we need.

Bishop’s Lent Appeal

The Bishop in Europe: The Right Reverend Dr. Robert Innes  This year, the Bishop’s Lent Appeal hopes to aid the plight of unaccompanied child migrants in the Calais area. These youngsters have been reduced to sleeping rough in the open since the closure of the refugee camps last year. They are extremely vulnerable. We hope two projects will benefit: Firstly, a safe house and outreach ministry to child migrants run by an Old Catholic monk…

Scripture and the Authority of God

This bookreview was written by Annemarie Huijink “Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so”. We all know this song but what is exactly the authority of the Bible and how does it relate to the authority of God. These were some questions I thought about when opening the book: Scripture and the Authority of God by Tom Wright. Before I will give my opinion on the book first I will…

Sunday road closures and detours in connection with the Utrecht Science Park Marathon

Sunday March 18th, a number of roads around the Wilhelminapark will be closed from 11:00 onwards and detours will be in place. This is because the Utrecht Science Park Marathon route takes the runners from the Prins Hendrikstraat through the Wilhelminapark, and along Oudwijk and the Emmalaan. Public transport will also be affected, as line 8 and line 41 will detour from 11:00. From 11:30 on, line 2 will not run at all. See the Utrecht…

Our man in Oxford

This is an update from Thomas Fink-Jensen from Holy Trinity Utrecht, who is being supported in part by the chaplaincy with an annual grant, and primarily by the Church of England, as a postulant in training for ordained ministry. Dear Friends, I am writing you just before Hilary Term at the University of Oxford begins, and am (therefore?) still full of good cheer and happy memories of our visit to the Netherlands over Christmas. It…
