Bishops Blog on visit to the Netherlands

There has been an English chaplaincy in Utrecht in one form or another since at least the 17th century. The present church building was consecrated in 1913. It is cosy, traditional in style and frequently packed. Utrecht is, at least as far as the railway is concerned, at the centre of the Netherlands. Holy Trinity Utrecht is likewise at the centre of Anglican ministry to a big area that includes Zwolle, Arnhem and Groningen. The…

The Bishop’s Easter Greeting

“I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “to give you a future and a hope. You will seek me and you will find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jer. 29:11).
Having read God’s promise to Jeremiah as part of the Lenten Bible Lessons, and by reflecting upon the example of Jesus’ disciples facing uncertainties before and after the Lord’s Resurrection, Bishop Robert draws courage and faith from these, especially in regard to the changing circumstances which lie before us in Europe.

Pilgrimage to the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham

Following two successful Deanery Pilgrimages in 2015 and 2016, Revd. Barry Birch is organising a Pilgrimage to Walsingham in August 2017. The previous pilgrims really enjoyed the time and were all uplifted by the whole experience. We hope many others would like to join us this year. The shrine and grounds are situated in a lovely English village. The grounds contain the Shrine church, gardens with the Stations of the Cross, beautiful planting, accommodation for…

The Anglican Church in Zwolle – Its establishment and development over the years

This contribution is from John and Frances Murphy During the 1939-45 war many Dutch civilians and Servicemen crossed the North Sea to join the Allied Forces in Britain. Once there they joined the various branches of the Allied Services including The Princess Irene Brigade. Naturally many men formed relationships with British women and after the war ended these men brought their brides back with them to the Netherlands. It was obvious that many men moved back…

Utrecht Chaplain – Armenia and Georgia

I write about my trip to Armenia and Georgia because it was a pilgrimage for me. Armenia and Georgia are the first two countries in the world to have become officially Christian, Armenia in 301AD and Georgia in 327AD. My hope was to learn about and be inspired by those who first brought the faith to that land and to understand the history of their Church and visit the holy sites.
