My eldest daughter, Ruth, used to work for a famous high street retailer. Sadly, the stress in and around Christmas was one of the reasons that she left them. The long hours in the run up to Christmas, the packed shops and stressed shoppers, and the night shifts just before Christmas Day itself when the shop had to be turned around rapidly into Boxing Day ‘sales’ mode, piled huge pressure on assistants and management alike.…
In Utrecht East, the traders association Puur Oost, a day care for people with disabilities, De Wilg and some of the local churches have once again joined hands to organize a lights tour through the neighborhood and the Wilhelmina Park on Friday 18th December. In Utrecht Oost the Christmas story comes to the streets in scenes and narratives and with Christmas music by choirs with candle flames along the designated route. In order for this…

This outline of student ministry in Utrecht is from Judith Riet (above). The new school year has started and in Utrecht that means the university and colleges have started as well. Did you know the city welcomes 15,000 new students every year? About 20% of the city population is student. Perhaps you have noticed the influx of students cycling badly, who try to get to college on time by blatantly ignoring all other traffic and…

Join us for a festive service on New Year’s Day: starting the year together in worship, and celebrating the day of Jesus’ circumcision. The service is at 11am and is a Sung Communion in Dutch with Peter Boswijk preaching. After the service there is a good opportunity for exchanging New Year’s wishes, while enjoying traditional Dutch New Year’s pastries.

Read the Bishop’s Christian Message or watch on youtube The nine lessons and carols service from King’s College Cambridge is listened to by millions of people all over the world. It is one of England’s most distinctive and successful religious exports! For me, the service has especial resonance, because this was the college where I studied as an undergraduate and so the distinctive sound of the treble voices and fulsome reed organ stops brings back happy memories of my student life.…
