This week we have launched the new website for Holy Trinity Church in time for new visitors to our site during the Advent and Christmas season. The website has been created by Robbert de Kuiper with the direction of the Website Subcommittee formed by the Chaplaincy Church Council, and chaired by Peter Boswijk. The website uses a theme from WordPress and so several people will be given access to be able to update the site easily.…

New Year’s Day Service

Join us for a festive service on New Year’s Day: starting the year together in worship, and celebrating the day of Jesus’ circumcision. The service is at 11am and is a Sung Communion in Dutch with Peter Boswijk preaching.  After the service there is a good opportunity for exchanging New Year’s wishes, while enjoying traditional Dutch New Year’s pastries.

Bishop Robert’s Christmas message

Read  the Bishop’s Christian Message or watch on youtube The nine lessons and carols service from King’s College Cambridge is listened to by millions of people all over the world. It is one of England’s most distinctive and successful religious exports! For me, the service has especial resonance, because this was the college where I studied as an undergraduate and so the distinctive sound of the treble voices and fulsome reed organ stops brings back happy memories of my student life.…

Bishop’s Advent Appeal: The Sant’Egidio Programme

Every year our Bishop choses a worthy cause for chaplaincies to consider contributing to as a whole for Advent.  We contribute to it through the blue bag at our collection during the service. Bishop Robert Innes has written the following appeal… One year after the tragedy off Lampedusa I am writing this letter on the anniversary of the Lampedusa migrant shipwreck. On 3rd October 2013, a 20 metre fishing boat carrying migrants from Africa caught…

Chaplain’s Letter December: The Time of Advent

Dear Friends in Christ: We begin the new Christian year with the season of Advent. Our colour has changed to purple to symbolize penitence. Spiritually it is meant to be a time greater self-reflection, in quiet, to prepare ourselves inwardly for the great feast and celebration of Christmas. It is a penitential season – and yet it is also a season full of hope!  We see lights going up in the streets at night to…

Jewish Monument: Utrecht Remembers

Seventy years after the war there are plans to built a memorial to the 1,224 Jewish victims sent to the death camps from Utrecht. The plan for the monument is a bronze shofar (a horn) next to a memorial wall with the 1224 names of the deported and murdered Jews of Utrecht (see above). The artist chosen is Amiran Djanasvili. Churches and individuals have been given the opportunity to support this project – Holy Trinity Chaplaincy Council has recently approved a donation of €2,500 towards this…

Advent Bible Study

Advent is the time of preparing for Christ’s coming. Angels and persons involved burst out in singing! Will we be ready to sing Gods glory and speak prophetic words when Christ comes again? During Advent we will read, study and sing each Tuesday another song from the Bible related to Christ first coming. Let’s pray that we find a connection to our current circumstances and be prepared for His second coming, His coming again in…

Archdeaconry Synod 2014 Report

By Rosemarie Strengholt, Warden. The first weekend of October, a group of delegates from Holy Trinity Utrecht went to the Archdeaconry Synod. It was held at a place that used to be an Abbey, with a chapel, a church and some beautiful gardens. While the weather was beautiful, we were inside thinking about the different Anglican churches in the Benelux area. The meeting on the first day was about the Luweero twinning project. The idea…

Chaplain’s Letter October: Ballroom Dancing

Dear Friends in Christ, Last month I was asked by a ballroom dance club in Utrecht – USDV U Dance, to write an article on the virtues of dance for a publication in which they are asking representatives of different religions for their thoughts.  It seemed a little crazy for me to write about this, given that, when it comes to dancing, I have two left feet!  But here is part of the article I…
